Faculty of sport and physical education of university of NIŠ

In 1948. was the foundation of Teacher Training College, forerunner of today's Faculty of Sport and Physical Education in Niš, the first higher education institution south of Belgrade. Academic 1949/50 the first generation of student enrolled. Within Teacher Training College, a Department of Physical Education was founded in academic 1954/55 (2 year studies). In 1971, by the governmental decree of the Republic of Serbia the Faculty of Philosophy was founded as a member of the University of Niš, with the Department of Physical Education as its constituent unit. Following 28 years, in1999, by the governmental decree of the Republic of Serbia, the Faculty of Physical Education was founded as a new member of the University of Niš. During 2006, by the decree of the University Senate in Niš, Faculty of Physical Education changed its name into the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education (FSPE). From the academic 2007/08, Faculty of Sport and Physical Education of University of Niš adopted the Bologna Process and runs its undergraduate and postgraduate studies and programmes degrees accordingly. In 2016, FSPE has entered Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Sport Science Schools and Departments. For 2018, 151st – 200th position at Shangai list of top sport science schools, departments and institutes in the world.

Since its establishment the FSPE has issued diplomas in various study programs to approximately 3000 students and around 100 doctoral dissertations were defended. Senior coaches certificates were issued to around 1300 students who have completed their studies within the Center for the development of staff in sport and recreation.

FSPE has accredited the following study programs: Undergraduate studies, physical education and sport; Bachelor vocational studies, sport; Graduate Specialised Professional Studies, sport; Master degree studies, physical education and sport; Master degree studies in physical education, physical activity and health and Doctoral degree studies, sports science.

Today, FSPE employs 49 teaching and associates staff. There are 25 non-teaching employees in different sectors: General and Legal Affairs sector, Education and Student Affairs sector, Material and Financial Affairs sector, Library and IT sector.
